So your golf cart starts but doesn't charge and you think you've got a bad starter/generator. It's possible, but also possibly working just fine.
Put a volt meter directly to the stud on your golf cart starter/generator. If its putting out 2-3 volts, instead of 14 volts, it is functioning as it should. However this is evidence that there is little or no connection to the battery, even if the cart starts.
Why not 14 volts? The starter/generator creates 2-4 Volts and combines it with the +/-12 Volts from the battery to make 14Volts.
The root of this issue is usually a corroded wire or another issue somewhere between the starter/generator, the solenoids, regulators and everything its got to go through to get to the battery.
